The Spring/Summer collections may be premiering in New York, London, Paris and Milan, but we’re entering my favorite season for fashion so that’s where my head’s been at lately. I’ve been going back through the Autumn/Winter collections for some much-anticipated style inspiration and this week I’m focusing on the fabulous, retro-infused looks created by Irish designer Orla Kiely. I’ve always loved her aesthetic and the charming way she reinvents retro patterns and ideas; she pulls from the past in a way that never feels contrived or redundant. Her shapes and prints are usually my favorite aspect of her collections, the way she fuses whimsy with a hefty dose of girl-power. She gets that some of us want to swish our skirt and fluff our Peter Pan collar while feeling like we could kick butt and take names. My favorite thing about fall is the chance to layer, and this collection totally reflects that. What I’m especially crazy about is the outerwear. Cozy cardigans, stylish trenches, and a classic bouclé jacket – what’s not to love?
