It’s that time of year again: the end-of-season sales are on, the September issues are out, and the kids are heading back to school. For those of us in the northern hemisphere, autumn is almost upon us, and with that comes the coveted fall fashion. It’s the season of luxurious fabrics, creative layering, and unlimited style possibilities. Of course, when I shop the sale racks I always seem to pick up a new favorite summertime dress just before the weather changes (or even after). Because of that, last year I put my ingenuity to the test and came up with a few ways to wear some of my summer dresses for the cooler months as well, and it turned out to be quite fun. Following along with that mindset, while I was browsing the selection of plus size clothes by Fashion World I thought I’d undertake a small styling exploration to get inspired for the most creative season of the year.
The dress: floral and romantic
The transitional pieces: A hefty cardigan and high boots
Contrasting lightweight fabrics and feminine elements with oversize sweaters creates one of my favorite looks for fall; it’s a bit sweet, and very cozy. High boots bring it all together. Choose your boots’ height depending on the length of the dress and you’ll be all set.
The dress: beach-perfect maxi
The transitional pieces: classic denim jacket and casual flats
The bold prints in maxi dresses will always be a focal point, but they’re remarkably easy to accessorize with jackets. I’ve worn blazers, faux fur vests, and denim jackets with my maxis. I think different dresses fit different outerwear styles best, so don’t be afraid to get creative.
The dress: summer cocktail
The transitional pieces: tailored tuxedo jacket, tights and closed-toe pumps
Never underestimate the power of tights to let you get a few cool months out of your short dresses! A few creative touches in keeping with the dress’s level of elegance maintain your polished look. For some edge, a neon clutch with this would be a bold addition.
These are just a few ideas, and hopefully they’ve helped to motivate you for the coming season. Happy dressing!
