Pin Your Way to an Organized Closet

Pinterest, the definitive image-bookmarking site and every blogger’s failsafe tool; I’ve talked about it and I’ve used it and it never gets old. I’ve been gathering up the inspiration (“pinspiration”, if you will) for a while now on a bevy of diverse themes, from book covers to fashion favorites, and I finally decided to make my pinning habit work for me. You know those girls that dream of having a closet the likes of which would make Carrie Bradshaw squeal with delight? And it’s not just about the designer-driven wardrobe, mind you – I’m talking an oasis of a closet, if not in space (let’s face it, not all of us can make that picture up there a reality) but in the overall experience of a place that inspires our ceaselessly creative inner-fashionista and appeals to the eye through blissful organization. It’s not a bad dream. Are there bigger, more important things in life? Well, yeah, obviously. But a little luxury never hurt anyone, and if you can make it work for you, in your space and in your budget, then why not? Living in a temporary space hasn’t afforded me the singular, rather important element of actually having a closet to transform into a place that inspires my ceaselessly creative inner-fashionista and appeals to my eye through blissful organization, but…I’m pinning in the meantime, and as a result I’ve garnered a pretty impressive arsenal of snazzy design ideas. Check it out.

Transform a basic walk-in into a decorated dressing space with the simplest details. I love these black-and-whites of Jackie O. hanging in that fraction of free space. I have a collection of photos of some of my favorite classic icons, and this is just the perfect way to use a few of them.

Two things I love about this absolutely fabulous space. The hangers – which, I’ll grant, aren’t always friendly to the budget – provoke a wonderful aesthetic with their symmetry. They keep everything at the same height, which just shrieks of organization (and the blissful kind, no less!). The other thing I love is the use of a dresser in the closet. I’m sure I’ll never likely have a space this big, but I do have a similar dresser (via Ikea) that would help me pull off this look if the space ever does present itself. Standing an oversize mirror up is a great idea, too.

We may not all have a collection of Hermès boxes like this to help us stay organized, but…I don’t really care, it’s still incredibly nice to look at. And who says they have to be Hermès, anyway? (Remember Lesson #1 from Tom Ford: it’s not about who, it’s about you.) And I, for one, am all about the color-coordination going on here. Storing your precious accessories in matching boxes from a craft store can be done quicker than you can say Birkin bag.

Fabulous Kelly Framel has a closet organization staple that’s actually already in my possession: the hanging jewelry organizer. No big deal, you can pick one up from Target, but the result is marvelously effective. I also love Kelly’s use of the other perfect hanger, the thin black space-saver (Real Simple has their own line of them; sold!). These ditties are likely more suitable for my closet realities, but they’re no less glam.

So, you buy a fancy shmancy and ridiculously expensive item from a high-end luxury designer/design house. What else would you do but frame the shopping bag and hang it in your closet? Really, this is one of my favorite discoveries in my dream-closet pinning escapades, and while it’s not exactly conducive to the whole “blissfully-organized” affair it does coincide with the element of inspiring that ceaselessly creative inner-fashionista; and honestly, what a fun way to commemorate a favorite purchase. Win-win.

More of my closet-pinning antics can be found on my décor: dream closet pinboard. Happy trails, pinners!

I know, I wish I had more and more time for the site! Just a few minutes makes me love it even more. And really, people are so brilliant with organization like this. I wish I could come up with some of these ideas on my own! ;)

Such great inspiration! I would love to have a wardrobe like that! I have half of the one’s above- starting from scratch since last year is hard since I don’t have all the money to purchase clothing all the time. When I have more clothes and a house I would love to transform a room into a wardrobe… :)

Oh, I completely understand that! I’ve so wanted to start investing in key pieces and gradually building my wardrobe, but at the same time I want to lose weight so I find myself trying to save money and still enjoy fashion in the process (without falling in love with too many pieces that likely won’t fit when I reach my goal weight). And a dream wardrobe totally factors into the dream of owning my own home someday, too!

Thanks so much! ;) I completely agree, organization is fantastic, but closet organization…be still my heart.

Are you familiar with IHeartOrganizing? I just came across it recently and I’m loving all the inspiration!

I love pinterest, it is ridiculously easy to spend hours just pinning fabulous things. I really need to organize my boards.

These are some truly fabulous closets, I have such a hard time keeping my closet organized. I hope to have a big closet one day! My closet right now is a complete disaster.

I love the framed bags. I have to tell everyone, Happy Halloooweeen!

Isn’t it?! I could just spend ages on it. And I hear you, I’m constantly wanting to revamp my boards. It’s terrible!

I’m the queen of disaster closets, though I wish I was the queen of…well, any of those closets up there. It’s a goal to have, at least, right? And I’m so glad there’s inspiration like this to guide us. ;)

Hope you had a lovely Halloween as well, girly! xo

“quicker than you can say Birkin bag”
Totally my new catchphrase ;)
I love the last idea with the shopping bags. Now I know what to do with the ridiculously big Chanel-bag I got when I bought Coco Mademoiselle last week… Hehe.

Haha! I was on cold meds when I wrote this, I think that’s when my humor starts to come out? ;)

Yay, I hope you’ll share a picture if/when you frame the Chanel bag! Lucky girl – this is just more incentive for me to someday do some luxury designer shopping. Ha!

Well, cold meds aren’t that bad then after all. Hehe.

I’ll see what I can do. Someday… Though I’d rather buy myself some Dries Van Noten. His shoes fit like a dream.

Isn’t that cute? Definitely one of my favorite things I’ve seen around the internet.

And thanks so much re: my blog’s design! Sorry I’m only now getting to reply here; I hope you found the post? It’s here just in case. WordPress has been wonderful for me, I just love it. And the theme I’m using with this design is Thesis, which is a fantastic platform even without the customizations. (:

Oh Pinterest. It’s so addicting – if I go on there, I know I will be busy for hours upon hours…I so wish I could have all of these closets!! My closet is an ok size, I guess – it definitely need some expansion space, but I’d have to reconstruct the house (that’s kind of out of my budget – lol). Thank you SO much for your absolutely amazing comment. It made me so happy, and started my day out happy. Its friends like YOU that I’m so thankful to have met through blogging. xo

Ah, I know the feeling! Now at this point I’m still in the middle of moving so my closet is actually a suitcase (that’s even LESS fun), but in the past it seems like I could always use more space, even just a little. A shame house reconstructions cost so much, huh? ;)

And you’re so welcome, sweets – sorry for my delayed response here! I couldn’t return the sentiment any more, believe me. Now we just have to make meeting up in person happen for us! Someday, someday!

These closets are so inspiring! When I have a real-sized closet in the future (fingers crossed that that’s not too far away in the future!) I want to incorporate a lot of these ideas. Especially the idea of framing your shopping bags- what an easy and chic DIY! I have a little Coach shopping bag that would look adorable framed!

Also, I can’t tell you enough how smashing your new blog design is! =)

Reply

Casee Marie November 10, 2011 at 9:45 pm

I know exactly what you mean – none of my closets up until now have really been suitable for these, but someday it’ll happen. And your Coach bag would be perfect to frame! Definitely let me know if you do that. ;)

Thanks so much, too, re: the blog design. I’m so glad you like it! Sometimes I worry it’s a little too cutesy, but I just chock that up to my inability to ever be completely happy with anything I do in Photoshop. Haha.
