Pinterest, the definitive image-bookmarking site and every blogger’s failsafe tool; I’ve talked about it and I’ve used it and it never gets old. I’ve been gathering up the inspiration (“pinspiration”, if you will) for a while now on a bevy of diverse themes, from book covers to fashion favorites, and I finally decided to make my pinning habit work for me. You know those girls that dream of having a closet the likes of which would make Carrie Bradshaw squeal with delight? And it’s not just about the designer-driven wardrobe, mind you – I’m talking an oasis of a closet, if not in space (let’s face it, not all of us can make that picture up there a reality) but in the overall experience of a place that inspires our ceaselessly creative inner-fashionista and appeals to the eye through blissful organization. It’s not a bad dream. Are there bigger, more important things in life? Well, yeah, obviously. But a little luxury never hurt anyone, and if you can make it work for you, in your space and in your budget, then why not? Living in a temporary space hasn’t afforded me the singular, rather important element of actually having a closet to transform into a place that inspires my ceaselessly creative inner-fashionista and appeals to my eye through blissful organization, but…I’m pinning in the meantime, and as a result I’ve garnered a pretty impressive arsenal of snazzy design ideas. Check it out.

Transform a basic walk-in into a decorated dressing space with the simplest details. I love these black-and-whites of Jackie O. hanging in that fraction of free space. I have a collection of photos of some of my favorite classic icons, and this is just the perfect way to use a few of them.

Two things I love about this absolutely fabulous space. The hangers – which, I’ll grant, aren’t always friendly to the budget – provoke a wonderful aesthetic with their symmetry. They keep everything at the same height, which just shrieks of organization (and the blissful kind, no less!). The other thing I love is the use of a dresser in the closet. I’m sure I’ll never likely have a space this big, but I do have a similar dresser (via Ikea) that would help me pull off this look if the space ever does present itself. Standing an oversize mirror up is a great idea, too.

We may not all have a collection of Hermès boxes like this to help us stay organized, but…I don’t really care, it’s still incredibly nice to look at. And who says they have to be Hermès, anyway? (Remember Lesson #1 from Tom Ford: it’s not about who, it’s about you.) And I, for one, am all about the color-coordination going on here. Storing your precious accessories in matching boxes from a craft store can be done quicker than you can say Birkin bag.

Fabulous Kelly Framel has a closet organization staple that’s actually already in my possession: the hanging jewelry organizer. No big deal, you can pick one up from Target, but the result is marvelously effective. I also love Kelly’s use of the other perfect hanger, the thin black space-saver (Real Simple has their own line of them; sold!). These ditties are likely more suitable for my closet realities, but they’re no less glam.

So, you buy a fancy shmancy and ridiculously expensive item from a high-end luxury designer/design house. What else would you do but frame the shopping bag and hang it in your closet? Really, this is one of my favorite discoveries in my dream-closet pinning escapades, and while it’s not exactly conducive to the whole “blissfully-organized” affair it does coincide with the element of inspiring that ceaselessly creative inner-fashionista; and honestly, what a fun way to commemorate a favorite purchase. Win-win.

More of my closet-pinning antics can be found on my décor: dream closet pinboard. Happy trails, pinners!

Last night I was genuinely honored to attend the Silhouette of a Woman fashion show in Poughkeepsie, which benefited the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation. I wrote about the event just recently, where you can find all of the details and a link to donate to the foundation as well. The event was comprised entirely of local businesses, embracing at once the city’s history as well as its local survivors and the many women who work ceaselessly to raise awareness and help others affected. My aunt Jennifer is one of those people, whose efforts to aid breast cancer survivors and sufferers can be seen through her work as both a volunteer and a businesswoman. She took part in the event through her hair salon, Cartier’s Hair Design, and I was so excited to be able to be there to support her. There was a genuine sense of joie de vivre wrapped around the gorgeous Bardavon Theater that night, and in a way it seemed like everyone was stopping to commemorate life itself.

I was so happy to be given a press pass for the event, which allowed me and my (very) amateurish attempts at photography a ticket backstage and beyond. I’m less than proficient with a camera, but I did my best!

Favorite moments from the show…

After the fashion show, the breast cancer survivors were all recognized among the models. I didn’t get pictures of everyone, though I do have all of their names so I’d like to acknowledge them here as well. This was such a moving and inspirational moment; I think pictures say thousands of words here.

Countless thanks to them, and to everyone involved in bringing Silhouette of a Woman to fruition; it was such a tremendous experience. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to be there and that I’m able to share it with all of you!

For me, the night was as much about celebrating Jennifer and the ways she inspires me as it was about celebrating so many other things. She’s an active participant in the American Cancer Society’s Look Good…Feel Better program which aims to support breast cancer sufferers through self-esteem and the power of beauty. She’s been recognized for her efforts in The Poughkeepsie Journal, YBNLive.com and MidHudsonCentral.com, among many other honors. I’m so proud of the work she does and the effortless way she instills hope and happiness into the lives of everyone around her. She’s truly a remarkable woman.

I’ll be posting a full set of photos (yes, there’s more where this came from!) on The Girl Who Stole the Eiffel Tower’s Facebook page shortly so stay tuned! And, as always, thanks so much for reading. xoCM

There’s something very Parisian about rose-tones and complimenting neutrals; they’re rustic and romantic at the same time – rather appropriate to the image of the Eiffel Tower, isn’t it? While I love my blacks-and-whites in fashion, I love the way these tones work together to create a look that’s feminine without being overtly whimsical and striking in a minimalist way. A big trend right now that I’ve been coveting from affair is rose gold. It’s the perfect way to bring that dusty romance into accessories, and it can mix well with either silver or gold, blacks or browns. For me, it’s also a great alternative way to venture away from my typical silver pieces when I’m not in the mood for yellow-toned gold.

Jacket: JCrew | Skirt: Ann Taylor | Blouse: Ann Taylor

I love the shade of this silk charmeuse blouse from Ann Taylor, appropriately named Parlor Rose. Combined with the jacket from J. Crew it would play so well with the gold buttons and bone color; it’s the simple little things like those three tones put together that create the illusion of an even fuller palette and keep your look from being bland. Add in the hazelnut skirt for a bit more depth and overall richness. I love Ann Taylor’s color palettes lately; they’ve easily become my go-to for this lovely look.

Bracelet: Simon G| Necklace: Kathy Ireland | Earrings: Belle Etoile | Ring: Le Vian

The key pieces themselves, some rose gold jewelry and rosy-toned baubles. These pieces are all available from Kranich’s Jewelers, who offer everything from emerald cut diamond engagement rings to fine statement jewelry from celebrated designers such as Simon G and Kathy Ireland. They have a gorgeous selection, among which plenty of rose gold can be found. I’m crazy about the Le Vian wrap ring, which takes the rose into some edgy territory, while the stunning Kathy Ireland piece puts the rose on focus with the diamonds as a perfect backdrop. You can check out Kranich’s full selection of rose gold jewelry here.

Bag: Talbots | Shoes: Zara

And lastly, experimenting with textures through accessories can make a look like this a little more interesting. I love a little overload of textures when the colors are all in the same family; it requires a certain amount of attention to detail to see the full effect of the outfit. I love the way these two work together, being so completely different but then being brought so effortlessly together with the rest of the outfit. Talbots has been doing some wonderful accessories lately; I’ve loved the handbags in their last few collections, and this one is so suitably called “Rose Taupe”. The snakeskin court shoes, of course, are a staple with a twist from Zara.

Overall, I guess you could say I’m looking at fashion through rose-colored glasses right now. What shades are plucking at your heartstrings lately?
