Is it too soon to talk about fall fashion, I wonder? As I’ve been perusing my favorite blogs I’ve noticed a mixture of autumn and summer; the fall collections are in stores, the September issues are coming out, but at the same time the summer weather is still very much in full effect. It’s an awkward time, this transition period! Nonetheless, I’ve gotten to thinking about fall (it’s my favorite season, I just can’t help myself!) and that’s got me thinking about colors. Somehow when my thoughts went to my favorite shades for the season I found myself constantly relating them to food. First it was eggplant, innocent enough. Then came cabernet, then squash and pumpkin, then coffee, and so on. I don’t think I was hungry when I started, but I definitely was by the time I finished scrounging up all these recipes from across the web for my little food-inspired fall fashion color palette! I also have to give an honorable mention to these Buttermilk Blueberry Breakfast Cakes because they look too splendid to be left out.

1. AGRA handheld bag ($45, Aldo) 2. Mark & James Belted Jersey Dress ($210, Nordstrom)
3. Sleeveless Dress ($79.90, Zara) 4. Basic Zip Back Vest (£28, Topshop)
5. Bold Elements Hammered Necklace ($19.99, JCPenney) 6. Trouvé Neda Sandal ($46.90, Nordstrom)
Fall seems to be the one season that I really associate with the colors of food, that harvest-driven palette that’s so cozy and familiar. But another thing I love about these colors is the way they can transition through this awkward period of late-summer and pre-fall, as above. Even if we can’t jump into heavy knits and and luxe furs just yet, the heat never hinders adventuring into your favorite colors for the upcoming season!
So…how ’bout those mocha cupcakes?!

I never thought I’d say this, but forget the cupcakes — I want that bag!!! The perfect color, perfect size and NOT leather! Thank you for finding my new fall satchel!!!
Aww, that’s so cool! I’m glad you like it, girly. I’m obsessed with the color!
I can’t wait for autumn *happy dance*! I love it all. The fashions, the weather, the food, the spirit.
My sentiments exactly! It’s such a cozy (and beautiful) season!
I love love love fall. The colors, the sweaters, the trench coats. Everything about it is my whole style.
So true. From a fashion standpoint I love it for all the layering, it’s the perfect little in-between from summer’s blandness and winter’s bundling. I just wish it lasted longer!
LOVE THESE PHOTOS! And, I too am looking forward to Fall! XO!
Thanks, Caroline! I had way too much fun looking up the pictures/recipes on Pinterest.
The looks are great— but I am hungry now!
I want to jump through the screen and eat everything!!! I haven’t done a recipe in a while & this looks sooo tempting!! Nom Nom Nom
Ha! I had the same exact problem when I was looking up the recipes – I wanted all of them!
I absolutely love all of these colours, I don’t think it’s too early to start talking about Autumn/Winter, I personally can’t wait for it!
Thanks so much! I completely agree – autumn can’t come soon enough. (:
This post is so amazing. I guess I never seriously thought about fall colors when it comes to fashion, but you nailed it. And adding those pretty pictures of food… Good thing I just had dinner…
Aww, thanks so much! Fall, fashion and food – it all works together so well.
Loved reading this post Casee! I’m a huge lover of autumn and winter fashion, and an even bigger fan of the colour descriptive words.
Thanks so much, Michelle! Autumn/Winter is definitely my favorite time for fashion, it’s just so cozy and full of charm.
Why are you so awesome? Food and fashion? Great combo. I won’t lie I clicked on this for the food. And now am looking at a recipe for The Best Grilled Cheese Sandwich.
You are the awesome one. I’m sorry there’s no cheesecake in here! But the grilled cheese sounds like perfection.
Umm. how about all the above, especially wanting the zucchini/ricotta Galette and eggplant salad toasts. Delicious post!
Ha! Thanks, Madison. I think the eggplant salad toasts are my favorite – definitely need to try those sometime!
You managed to make me hungry even though I had the biggest and most delicious dinner every… Ah well.
I really wasn’t hungry when I set out to do the post but afterwards I wanted one of everything! Just terrible.
the nut brittle and the green dress caught my eye!
This is such a beautiful post! Never would even think of comparing foods with an Autumn color palette! Wonderful!
Thanks, Britta! I think it was the eggplant that started it all – it seems to be a really big color this season. (:
Everything looks so delicious especially the cupcakes and the grilled cheese and tomato soup! I am kind of excited for fall, more so the fashion than the cold weather. I am loving the pieces you picked out in the collage- the red handbag is hot!
Thanks, Heidi! Weather-wise I always feel like we skip autumn here, it goes right from hot to cold. I like the crisp sort of autumn days. I’m definitely so excited for the fashion!
How unexpectedly wonderful that you used food as your color palette. I love it!
Thanks so much, Courtney! I’m glad it was unexpected – I honestly wasn’t sure if it would be!
You’ve officially made me hungry now! I love the colour eggplant all year round, although it is a more wintery colour. There are a fair few more brighter colours around for both men and women this winter as well.
I’m definitely going to be adding more eggplant to my wardrobe, just love the richness of it. I’ve never been as big of a fan of the brighter colors, but it’s great to have the options!
It’s totally not too early to talk about fall fashion…I’m ready! Please, no more scorching summer days. I’m transitioning already with my nail color, which is about the shade of the first swatch. Bring on the boots, I say!
Ohh, the eggplant’s my favorite of the bunch. I have a nail color similar, but not quite as rich. I’m so over the summer heat and definitely ready for fall (the boots!). Bring it on!
I love this analogy between the food and fall’s color palette. I have been meaning to do something like this for ages with my recipes and outfit posts. And yes, I am in the same spot fashion wise. Looking forward to all that is coming but still donning summery dresses and whites every day!
So glad you liked it, dear! I’m such a sucker for the colors of fall, especially when it comes to fashion. I love my summer dresses but I’m definitely ready to move on!
I saw this last night, but didn’t get a chance to comment. I love this post! I too associate the jeweled, deep tones of Autumn Fashion with food!
I have never tried eggplant, but I love zucchini. And those mocha cupcakes – I have to make! Amazing post. I want a purse in that ‘autumn brittle’ mustard yellow color.
Thanks so much, Gabbie! I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who puts the two colors together a lot. They work so well!
I’ve only had eggplant once or twice that I can recall, but it was quite good! Rather bland, I think. but in a good way. (:
Fall Fashion has already made it’s way to the stores so it’s definitely not too early! I love that you used food to create the palette. By the way, I just at and actually wanted to eat again after I saw some of thoes treats! I’m dying for the weather to change so we can actually wear everything that we’re surrounded by!
Thanks, Jen! I know, the stores really aren’t helping my autumn cravings. And the clearance racks aren’t good for me, either! Now’s pretty much the perfect time to shop and I just haven’t had time!
I loooooove this post!! First it made me hungry for all the yummy foods and then the yummy fashion. Honestly I’m not quite ready to jump into fall fashion quite yet but I’m trying to get inspired by it and this post definitely helped. Love you, sweet pe!
Thanks so much, J! I’m glad the post helped get you into an autumny mood, at least a little bit? I can’t get enough of it, really!
